The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland section) was pleased to be this year’s nominated charity for the annual Parker & Partners Politzer Prize, with a cheque for $5000 presented to CEO Nino Di Marco on Friday February 12, 2010.
The Hon Bruce Scott, Federal LNP Member for Maranoa, was named winner of the 2010 Politzer Prize, a national political photographic competition where the proceeds are passed onto the winner’s chosen charity.
An active supporter of the RFDS, Mr Scott selected the Queensland section to receive the prize money, extending his gratitude for the service provided to the state and nation.
The successful photographic entry, titled ‘Building a nest in the west’, pays homage to the natural beauty of the outback with the image portraying pelicans flocking to the great flood plains of Queensland.
While honouring the beauty of the Queensland outback through photography, Mr Scott has also paid tribute to the vital work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
In a speech to Parliament highlighting the importance of the RFDS on Thursday 11th February, Mr Scott acknowledged the service that the RFDS provides to the community quoting patient attendances, flying hours and clinics conducted, saying “It just gives a glimpse of how vital the RFDS is to the health, safety and survival of the people of the outback.”
Mr Scott also noted, “But, of course, none of this can be possible without the financial support of companies, individuals, the federal government and communities.”
“The people of the outback of Australia feel for, support and appreciate the work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.”
