Port Hedland is located 1763 km’s north of Perth via the Great Northern Highway.  First gazetted in 1896 the port has been a vital gateway for supplies to the pastoral stations and the early gold mines when the goods were shipped from Fremantle by coastal streamer.  Now with a population of over 15,000 Port Hedland is one of the world’s highest tonnage ports shipping more than 50 million tonnes of high grade iron ore from its giant loading terminal each year.

The RFDS (Western Operations) base administration office and hangar facilities are located at the Port Hedland Airport.
