Road Landing for a Fixed Wing Aircraft

  • Inform pilot of any obstacles likely to obstruct the approach and take off areas, wind direction and speed estimate.
  • Preferred sealed road surface free of undulations, ruts or pot holes.
  • Two kilometres (2000 metres) of straight road.
  • Road must be at least 15 metres (50 ft) wide.
  • All guide posts, road signs or obstacles above ground level must be removed for the full 2000 metres.
  • Both ends of the 2000 metres must be guarded by a responsible person to stop any vehicles entering.

Establish Satphone communication between support vehicles and RFDS aircraft.
