Commercial radio-telephone interconnections are no longer provided by the RFDS (Western Operations).

RFDS Western Operations operates 5 HF multi-frequency radio bases in WA to provide state-wide coverage, day and night.   The sites are all remotely operated by our Operations Coordinators based at Jandakot Airport in Perth.

You will need an HF transceiver fitted with the frequencies in your area of operations to talk to us.   Transceivers are available from a number of suppliers and can also be rented for short term usage. An Outpost Radio Licence is also required to legally operate the transceiver.

To conduct a successful communication using HF, some thought needs to be given to operating technique, frequency selection and the Emergency Call alerting system. We strongly recommend that you familiarise yourself with these aspects and practice calls before relying on HF radio in isolated areas.
