Royal Flying Doctor Service

Emergencies

All the services are controlled by our operations centre in Perth 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Should you need to call upon the service for assistance, proceed as follows:

  • Select a frequency in accordance with the guidelines below.
  • If the frequency is already in use, wait for a break and then commence your call with “Emergency” to alert other users to cease transmissions.
  • If the frequency is not in use or you are unable to alert other users of your need, press the Emergency Call button on your radio for at least 20 seconds. RFDS (Western Operations) should respond to the call shortly after.
  • During the period of an Emergency, KEEP YOUR RADIO TURNED ON as we may need to talk to you.

If necessary, over a prolonged emergency, establish set times with us for communications contact; for example, every hour at a quarter past the hour. This will prolong your battery life, and will also allow you to attend to other important matters.
