 LINE PILOTS - REGIONAL BASES

RFDS Western Operations, the operating entity for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Western Australia is seeking the services of experienced pilots to join our team based at a number of regional locations in WA. RFDS Western Operations currently operates five Beechcraft B200 and six PC12/45 aircraft types. 

 

Applications are invited from suitably experienced pilots interested in working within an aeromedical environment to join our team at one of our regional located at Derby, Port Hedland, Meekatharra and Kalgoorlie.    

Qualifications and Experience:

·         Current Australian Commercial Pilot Licence

·         Current Command Instrument Rating Multi-engine, 4 renewals

·         2000 hours as pilot-in-command  

·         700 hours multi-engine command experience.

·         170 hours night experience

·         150 hours Instrument flying

·         Turbine type endorsement preferred

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
 
Conditions of employment are as per the RFDS (Western Operations') Pilots Certified Agreement 2005.
Salary Scales:
The following salary scales will apply.
 
Effective from 1 July 2007:
Level 1 $68,411.52 p a
Level 2 $70,475.64 p a
Level 3 $72,546.52 p a
Level 4 $74,645.51 p a
 
In addition to the above salaries, the following benefits are provided:
 
  • District Allowance:
    Derby - $3,043 pa; Port Hedland - $3,043 pa; Meekatharra - $2,470 pa; Kalgoorlie - $2,271 pa.
  • Retention Payment:
    $6,000 pa after 2 year qualification period and a further $3,000 for each additional 12 months of service thereafter.
  • Fuel Card:
    2,500 litres of fuel per annum;
  • Accomodation:
    Subsidised accomodation provided at Derby, Port Hedland and Kalgoorlie - rental and utility charges apply - 8% of salary.
    Accomodation and utilities provided at Meekatharra.
  • Mobile Phone provided.
  • Assistance with Pilot's home phone connection and home phone rental charges.
  • Salary Packaging;
  • Loss of Licence Allowance:
    Up to $1,200 inclusive of GST, per annum to assist a Pilot to have adequate insurance against loss of licence.  For Pilots aged 40 years or over up to $1,700 inclusive of GST, per annum.
  • Workload Recognition Payment
  • Assistance with relocation expenses on commencement of employment.

Superannuation:

RFDS (Western Operations) will make contributions on your behalf in accordance with the requirements of the Superannuation (Administration) Act 1992

You will be eligible for participation in the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia’s National Superannuation Fund. An income protection scheme or disability insurance protection is included as part of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia National Superannuation Fund.

DUTY STATEMENT
RFDS (Western Operations) may direct a pilot to carry out duties that are within the limits of the pilot’s skill, competency and training, provided that such duties are not designed to promote deskilling and are consistent with safety requirements.
Pilot duties will include but will not be limited to:
1.         Operational duties associated with preparation for and conduct of a flight, including:
(i)         normal fuelling, refuelling (except during period of rain or thunderstorms, the pressure of workload or if Duty Time Limits may be exceeded);
(ii)         completion of statutory and RFDS (Western Operations) documentation associated with a flight;
(iii)        assisting in the loading and unloading of patients and handling of luggage/or cargo.
2.         Ensure a safe environment within the aircraft during flight and in the vicinity of the aircraft on the ground.
3.         Flight planning and administration including preparation and maintenance of standard flight plans and data input and preparation and maintenance of an airfield register where necessary.
4.         Replenishing aircraft with supplemental and medical oxygen.
5.         Participation in activities relating to occupational health and safety.
6.         Performing post-flight cleaning of cowls oleos and windscreens.
7.         Hangering aircraft where required for aircraft security at Kalgoorlie base, Port Hedland base, Meekatharra base and Derby base.
8.         Engage in professional development, performance appraisals and quality programmes and activities as directed.
9.         Other duties as required.
 
 
 
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
1.              Current Australian Commercial Pilots Licence.
2.              Current Command Instrument Rating, multi-engine, 4 renewals.
3.              2000 hours minimum total.
Highly Desirable:
1.        700 hours multi engine aircraft command experience.
2.              170 hours night experience
3.              150 hours Instrument flying (Actual not Flight Planned).
4.               Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi disciplinary team.
5.         Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
6.         Physical ability to assist with the loading and unloading of patients (max 35kg load).
7.         Current 'A' class drivers licence.
Desirable:
1.              Turbine  tyoe type endorsement preferably B200 or PC12.
2.              Recent general aviation flying experience in remote areas  (See Remote Area Experience Qualification).
3.              Previous Aero Medical experience.
4.              Understanding of Occupational Safety and Health principles and practices.
Remote Area Experience Qualification
To qualify for recent remote area experience the pilot should have undertaken in the last 12 months a number of flights by Day or Night to remote localities listed below:
1.       Station Properties
2.       Aboriginal Communities             
3.       Mining Camps
These can be located in:
1.       Western Australia; Kimberley and the Desert
2.       Northern Territory; Cattle stations and Communities
3.       Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia; Far Western and Northern Districts
Night Flight Qualification
The Pilot would have landed by the following Strip illumination
1.       Battery Flarepath and or
2.       Kerosene Flarepath

STATEMENTS ADDRESSING SELECTION CRITERIA
 
The selection criteria are the knowledge, skills and abilities considered necessary to successfully perform the duties of the advertised position. They are divided into two types, essential and desirable. Essential criteria are those qualities/attributes that you must have to undertake the position, whilst satisfying the desirable criteria would greatly help you undertake the functions of the position.
 
Your statements addressing the selection criteria are the most important part of your application.
 
Your comments must be directly related to the selection criteria. A brief subjective statement that you meet the criterion will not usually be sufficient and it is strongly recommended that you se each criterion as a heading and outline your relevant claims and experience separately against each criterion. INTERVIEW PROCESS
 
·         Receipt of your application will be acknowledged.
·         You will be contacted if you have been short listed for an interview to arrange an interview time.   
 
Perth Metropolitan Applicants
 
·       The first interview will be a face to face interview.
 
Intra and Interstate Applicants
 
·       The first interview will be a telephone interview.
 
·         The interview questions are based on the selection criteria specific for the position, including essential and desirable criteria. 
 
·         Your past experience will be targeted and you may be asked to describe a relevant situation, state the actions you took in relation to the situation and to describe the result or consequence.
 
·         Once the first interviews have taken place, the preferred applicants will be contacted to arrange a further interview.
